The Piñata Dance Collective - Cuatro Vientos: Middle of Nowhere

Cuatro Vientos: Middle of Nowhere is a multimedia dance-theater production that confronts fears and strategies of walking alone. The Piñata Dance Collective investigates the physiology of fear, the concept of freedom and finding risk and refuge in the natural world as women/non-binary contemporary dance artists, vocalists and ceremonialists. It’s inspired by Choreographer Liz Duran Boubion's 10-week residency in the Mojave desert during the pandemic and is dedicated to raising awareness and building solidarity for murdered and missing women across the globe.  Part of the show is based on research, workshops and conversations with artists and women who are working with families actively searching for missing and murdered loved ones in Mexico.

Liz Duran Boubion, MFA, RSMT  is a second generation Chicana and queer multimedia dance theater artist, mother, presenter and Registered Somatic Movement Therapist based in San Francisco, Ca. She started her dance company Piñata Dance Collective in 2011 and is the artistic director of Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers (FLACC) currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.  FLACC creates a platform of visibility and inclusion that amplifies the radical aesthetics of Latinx and Indigenous Choreographers from the U.S. and Latin America. Boubion has held 8 choreographers residencies in the US, Mexico and Germany and is an associate teacher of the Tamalpa Institute, an expressive arts therapy program founded by dance pioneer, Anna Halprin. She received her BA in Dance from CSU Long Beach and her MFA in Creative Inquiry from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.
