Psychopomp Creation Workshop 2023

Train and perform with Psychopomp this August!

This unique workshop will offer a comfortable and inclusive space to learn new skills, connect with other dancers as well as express your artistry in the creation and performance of a brand new work in our professional Psychopomp Dance Festival at the iconic performance venue, Highways Performance Space.

Psychopomp’s Summer Workshop will share and teach artists our unique way of dancing: fearless dynamic movements, unison through felt time and ritualistic touch through real trust. Take part in the radical act of opening, exploring and making a new and unique performance work that highlights a variety of voices in the dance community.

This workshop will:

• Provide real world professional experience in performing and producing a larger dance festival, gaining experience and an inside look at how Psychopomp runs technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and self produces a show with Highways Performance Space
• Collaboratively create with all participants a brand new dance performance piece
• Facilitate a space grounded in the free exchange of ideas/discourse for a diverse group of artists to come together and experimentally learn, create and connect.
• Offer high level training in contemporary, contemporary floorwork, partnering and performance for intermediate/advanced dancers.
• Provide science & research backed prehab and injury prevention/mitigation techniques for dance artists
• Share and explore with our choreographic tool box for artists to create dance works
• Meet, collaborate & connect with like minded artists
• Record & share high quality documentation of process and performance to use for future reels/resumes etc.

Tuesday August 8th- Friday August 11th

• 10AM-11:15AM:Daily class
• Rotating focus on contemporary, functional strength + acrobatic floorwork skills & Partner work
• 11:30-2:15 Creation
• 2:15-2:30 Break
• 2:30-4PM Creation & Cool Down

Friday August 11th special schedule:

• 10-11:15 Daily class
• 11:30-2:15 Creation
• 230-4PM Tech & Dress Rehearsal
• 8PM Festival Performance!!!
