About The Event

A small bar in Tokyo’s red-light district where weird things can happen. We follow the story of each of its oddball customers. What links all these eccentrics together is Mariko, the bar owner with a side hustle as an undercover detective. A search for aliens? FBI investigators? Bizarre love affairs and assassins? Little does she know that this will lead her to confront untold secrets from her tragic past.

Eiji Uchida (b. 1971 in Brazil) began his career in Japan as a director of TV films and series before making his cinematic debut as director and writer with Gachapon (2004). His film Greatful Dead (2013) was screened at many festivals and brought him international recognition.

Katayama Shinzo (b. 1981 in Osaka) attended a film school founded by director Nakamura Genji. Starting in 2004, he worked as an assistant director, working with Korean director Bong Joon-ho on the 2008 short “Tokyo!” and 2009 feature Mother. His 2018 feature debut Siblings of the Cape and 2021 thriller Missing are both based on true events.
