GĒR Collective - GASKET

GĒR's first evening-length work considers memory fertilization and its inevitable depletion, examining a conceptual “gasket” sealing past and present. When worn down, the gasket may leak or rupture. Witness as GĒR assembles the pieces of a fragmented recollection into an evening of heavy splendor.

About The Event

GĒR Collective presents Gasket, their first evening-length performance. This experimental, multimedia work considers memory fertilization and its inevitable depletion. At large, the piece examines a conceptual “gasket” that seals the past and present and when worn down, may leak or rupture.

In this two part performance, audiences are guided through adjoining spaces, where they first encounter an installation that emanates the ruins of a forgotten world. They are then led into an immersive space which detangles the after and fore life of the previous experience.

The act of passing through the two spaces in which time is nonlinear breaches the seal that keeps the memory leak contained. Using physical and auditory motifs, Gasket questions the trust we place in sensations of familiarity. Haunted and taunted by recollection, the performers and audience alike collectively confront what is frontal and what is peripheral to memory as well as the longing brought on by coping with the discomfort of forgetting.

GĒR (pronounced “gear”), founded by Scout Nankin and Eliza Loran, is a queer movement based collective. GĒR premiered their first work, Problem Dog, in the Spring of 2024 as a part of the second annual Show N’ Tell festival at the Garage Theater in Long Beach, CA. GĒR believes in deconstructing the conventions of performance and cultivating community in the process. Through surrealist performance and installation, their work kisses discomfort with satire and addresses the bizarre, unseen, imperfect, and paradoxical nature of the human condition.
