Unseal Unseam: An Electroacoustic Opera
October 7, 2017 @ 10:00 pm - 11:00 pm PDT$20.00 - $25.00
An immersive, electroacoustic opera about one woman’s journey to leave her abusive husband. Based on the story of Bluebeard’s Castle, director Shannon Knox reimagines Bluebeard’s wife, Judith, as she travels through her own psychological purgatory to reclaim her life. In this unusual combination of noise and extended vocal techniques accompanied by electronic music, composers Sharon Chohi Kim and Micaela Tobin create a lustrous cacophony of amplified objects and operatic singing wherein the audience is invited to witness the intimate rituals of Judith’s transformation.
Unseal Unseam is a 45-minute immersive performance that travels throughout the theater. Due to the intimacy of the performance, tickets are limited, and reserving in advance is highly recommended. Highways Performance Space is equipped and accessible for persons with disabilities.
