#TANGO showcases the all-star talent of Tango icon, Stella Milano, the sizzling and electrifying Claudio Otero and Lauren Woods, songstress and show director Natalie Fernandez, and new tango talent Stella Fernandez. Sprinkled with special guests, including pianist Matias Piegari on Saturday night, prepare yourself for an unforgettable night.
Natalie Fernandez (born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and raised in Miami, Florida), bilingual vocalist, songwriter, dancer, filmmaker, and powerhouse performer, comes from a lineage of passionate tango performers. Fernandez quickly realized in her youth that she could impact an audience onstage. “So, I made the decision that this was going to be my life’s work,” said Fernandez. “I won many awards as a young vocalist and began performing in various shows around the U.S.” Fernandez went on to graduate from Berklee College of Music, where she performed with masters such as Chaka Khan, Ruben Blades, Anita Baker, Juan Luis Guerra, and Sheila E. After graduating, she backed Diego Torres, Carlos Vives and Juanes in NYC. In Los Angeles, she had the opportunity to record with award winning producers such as Humberto Gatica, Sebastian J., David “DQ” Quiñones (The Writing Camp), Kenny O’Brien, and Dany Tomas. In 2013, She signed with TRUTH REVOLUTION RECORDS and released the critically acclaimed afro-tango album “Nuestro Tango” along side pianist Zaccai Curtis. The album featured trumpeter Christian Scott and Philip Dizack, The Curtis Brothers, Richard Scofano on bandoneon ( available worldwide.) Following the critically acclaimed release, Fernandez went on to direct, produce, and write an accompanying series of music videos to “Nuestro Tango.” She then joined International pop star Thalia as a background vocalist / dancer on the “Latina Love Tour” performing for massive audiences in the US and Mexico
Stella Milano (born in Misiones, Argentina), singer, actress, TV/radio host, producer, and director, began her career at the age of 16. She was the animated television host of children shows where she won two Santa Clara De Asis Awards in Argentina. Returning to her first love, the stage, she performed in “A Chorus Line” and “Fiddler On The Roof” in Buenos Aires. She directed, produced, and performed in her own tango productions including “New Age Tango” and “Con Tango Art” in more than 20 cities in the U.S. In between her productions, she performed all over the world with Greg Thompson Productions in box-office hits such as “Heatwave”, “Womanism Show”, and “Caribbean Carnival”. She has released 4 highly respected tango albums on Mia Records and Con SuraMusic and had the honor of receiving the “Key To The City” of Milipitas, CA and Honor of the City of Miami, FL from the mayor. She is, without a doubt, the most versatile performer in the Latin American music industry.
Claudio Otero and Lauren Woods has performed Argentine tango and gauchos for the Hollywood Bowl with famous conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil Harmonic, the Glendale Phil Harmonic and five years in a row at the Ford Amphitheater. He worked with famous musicians such as Dyango, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Ruben Juarez, Lalo Schifrin, and was instructor for actresses Lindsey Lohan and Katherine Castro. As of last year, Claudio partnered with tango dancer and opera singer, Lauren Woods. Lauren has performed at the LA Opera, Disney Concert Hall, and Opera Santa Barbara. She has performed with well known artists such as Stevie Wonder at the Nokia Theater, opera singer Jessye Mae Norman, and actor Kieth David. Together, Claudio and Lauren have performed nationally and internationally and currently operate a company called, “Otero Productions”, highlighting their Argentine tango and gaucho show directed by Claudio Otero that has toured throughout many countries.
Stella Fernandez is a world-renowned breakdancer, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and now, Tango dancer. As one of the founding members of the legendary Heartbreakerz Crew, she has traveled to Asia, South America, and all across North America winning high level breakdance events, judging battles, and doing community outreach to educate the different cultures about the history and future of hip hop. She is currently committed to uplift the female breakdance community to strive for leadership roles and giving them a platform for their voices to be heard in the mostly male dominated breakdance community. As daughter of Stella Milano, it was a natural transition for her to begin her training as a tango dancer. Under the careful instruction of GD Tango, she has blossomed into a wonderful dancer. We welcome her to the stage this evening as she shares with us her own style of tango fused with the power of her breakdancing background.
Matias Piegari is an Argentinian pianist, award winning composer and music producer. He has performed internationally and throughout the US with different chamber orchestras, tango and jazz ensembles and as a soloist, while focusing in music production for films and TV in Hollywood, CA. In 2007 Matias won the first prize at the national orchestral composition contest for the Youth Orchestra of the Teatro Colon, in Buenos Aires with his composition Preludio Circense. He has also performed internationally offering solo concerts at prestigious theaters such as Teatro Colon; Teatro San Martin, Teatro Coliseo, Teatro El nacional, Teatro Maipo; Auditorio Telmex (Mexico), Tango festivals around the world including Argentina, Uruguay, Europe and USA. Jazz Festivals and several TV appearances at Radio Jazz & Pop. & Fibertel en Concierto, Canal (a); Matias moved to Los Angeles, California in 2013 to attend UCLA where he got an intense training in film scoring and is now an established composer in L.A. His latest feature film Phaedra, was produced by Robert Rodriguez and premiered at the South By Southwest Film Festival in 2018. Matias is also an awarded tango pianist, and musical director and arranger for various tango shows, including Lombard Twins Play Piazzolla, Tinto Tango, Tangotico, Orquesta del Club Europeo and Arturo Schneider Big Band among others.
