A diverse array of new solo performance works, featuring:

Roya Carreras’ “black door” (an excerpt from Á Table) – Á Table is about a woman. Her name is becky.
Jim Merson’s “The Orange” – The smell of a rotting orange triggers a wild communion with the dead. That rotting orange becomes a totem for lost loved ones as fresh oranges are shared amongst the living.
DivineBrick Research Projects (DBRP) aka Josie Juarez’s “a Sentient Approach, a Cybernetic Reproach” – A broom will sweep a wasteful heap. A figure square formed to repeat, a gesture of the meek.
Crystal Sepúlveda’s “Salton Sea” (an excerpt from (En)counter [balance]) – A work that experiments with site/environment – the site of the Salton Sea where the remains of fishy skeletons outline it’s shore and countless seagulls gawk at the horizon – taken out of context and experienced by means of referencing in order to create diverse relationships between movement and sound. Features an original sound score by collaborator, electronic composer no.e Parker.
Tracy Abbott Szatan’s “a m a s s” is a multichannel video installation and performance work that explores landscape, language, and identity. Writing letters to an absent figure, a character traverses the desert landscape, at once real and imagined.
Laurel Jenkins Tentindo’s “Under the Pelt” – In the very earliest time humans and animals spoke the same language, that was when words were like magic.
Bios:
Roya Carreras started dancing at the age of fifteen. She trained at the Alvin Ailey School in NYC from 2005-2007 then completed her BA in dance at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts in 2011. Upon graduation she spent the summer apprenticing with Lux Boreal Danza Contemporanea in Tijuana, Mexico wich lead her to perform with Malashock Dance as a guest artist. Ms. Carreras has also performed with California Riverside Ballet, Odd Jobs Performance, and Intersect Dance Theatre. Last summer she attended Spring Board Danse Montreal where she worked closely and performed works by Danielle Russo from The Danielle Russo Dance Company and Gustavo Ramirez Sanso artistic director of Luna Negra Dance Theater. Most recently Ms. Carreras apprenticed for Body Traffic on Barak Marshall’s newest work “The Chairman Dances” which was commissioned for the L.A Philharmonic. She is currently teaching dance and choreographing for Milken Highschool in Los Angeles and Brockus Conservatory in Redlands and she is the co-director of Odd Jobs Performance.
DivineBrick Research Projects (DBRP) AKA josie Juarez makes research based existential iconoclasm based artwork by the seat of his pants. He has spent his lifetime reconfiguring his views, beliefs, self-structure and has lived a research-oriented existence exploring belief and where it stems from. This exploration has taken many forms. Looking onto academia he has earned a BFA, has worked with canines, studied Butoh with the Tamanos, explored woodworking, writing, sculpture, sound production, video, performance, circuit hacking, developed a fascination with trends, researched the occult, the esoteric, transhumanist trends, BSDM lifestyles, religion and spirituality. Currently he resides in his birthplace, South Los Angeles, where he works in his studio, writing, retro fitting his Roubo inspired workbench and is self-publishing an interview based magazine entitled “Low Feed.”
Jim Merson performed in basements, bars, clubs, colleges, living rooms, major music festivals, museums, parks, and squats all over the world for nearly ten years as the sweaty dancer in the band Captain Ahab. He collaborated with Kristin Erickson to create Skeezy Street, a hyperactive jaunt through purgatory featuring baby-eating and sex acts with six foot hot dogs (REDCAT Studio Series Fall ‘10, Pacific Standard Time). Jim also created the performance installation The Bubble Calls (Call and Response 1: The Art of Leonard Nimoy, Pacific Design Center March-April ‘11).
Crystal Sepúlveda is a choreographer, improviser, and educator residing in Riverside, CA. She completed her M.F.A in Experimental Choreography from the University of California, Riverside and B.A. in Dance from Florida International University, where she studied alongside mentors Gary Lund and Katherine Kramer. Sepúlveda’s work can be described as process oriented, oddly functional with an interest in minute detail and imaginary landscapes, regularly unraveling from a practice of improvisation and collaboration. Sepúlveda’s more current works have been presented at the CUNY Graduate Center Department of Music for the Music and Space conference in New York, NY (April 2012), Highways Performance Space for Working Titles: Latino/a Arts Now!, Milkbar in Oakland, CA. and at Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts in Riverside, CA., as a recipient of the CARL Residency (February 2012).
Tracy Abbott Szatan writes, performs, and creates video and installation works. She has managed life on several continents and currently lives in Los Angeles.
Laurel Jenkins Tentindo is an independent choreographer based in LA. She was a member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company from 2007-2012. Her choreography has been presented internationally and in New York City at Danspace, Judson Church, and Joyce SoHo. She collaborative creates experimental puppet-theater with Luis Tentindo and is a certified Skinner Releasing Teacher. Laurel is currently an MFA candidate in UCLA’s World Arts and Cultures/Dance department.
