RICK MITCHELL – Anarchy/Chiapas
March 31, 2017 @ 8:30 pm - 10:15 pm PDT$15 - $20
In Anarchy Chiapas —which juxtaposes anarchism with authoritarianism, political activism with original cabaret tunes—a Puerto Rican playwright travels from New York to rural Mexico to cast and produce her new drama, which is set primarily in Chiapas and scheduled to open on New Year’s Day, 1994. As the play careens towards opening night, the play’s two indigenous actors suddenly disappear. Subsequently, the play about revolution is thrown into chaos. As the dramatist and remaining actor work late into the night on New Year’s Eve, trying to salvage the play, the rehearsal of the production is replaced by an actual revolution led by thousands of local Mayan in black ski-masks. Featuring plays-within-plays, new songs, and tap dancing! Written and directed by Rick Mitchell, with music by Max Kinberg.
Friday + Saturday, March 31 + April 1 @ 8.30pm
$20 general admission / $15 members, students, seniors
