MLK: A Tribute in Song
January 11 @ 8:00 pm PST$15.00 – $25.00
An inspirational journey in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through music, MLK: A Tribute in Song will be presented on as the firs of two events benefiting Highways Performance Space, that also commemorates Dr. King’s birthday (1/15/1929) and the 60th Anniversary of SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, founded in 1960).
MLK: A Tribute in Song celebrates Dr. King with a visually engaging multimedia presentation infused with poignant prose and riveting music of various genres sung by the signature soul-searing voice of Lura Daniels-Ball with the piano virtuoso of revered music director, Danny Burgin.
An alumna of USC’s world-renowned Thornton School of Music and an American Traditions Competition finalist, Daniels-Ball—along with acclaimed vocalists Bernetta Major-Thomas, Sylverna Mitchell & Christopher Haynes—take the audience on a compelling, emotional, yet celebratory musical trek highlighting key milestones of Dr. King’s legendary life that ended too soon, but left an incomparable legacy… The production also includes a special homage to Mrs. Coretta Scott King. There will be special opening remarks from Rev. Jini Kilgore-Cockroft, who‘s father, Rev. Thomas Kilgore, Jr., was a close friend and colleague of Dr. King (he is seen behind Dr. King in the iconic March on Washington photo).
