MashUp Contemporary Dance Company – UNRAVEL
August 23, 2019 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm PDT$25.00 – $30.00
Whether it’s our reproductive or mental health, our relationship status or relationship with our bodies, women experience deeply rooted shame throughout our lives. Unlike guilt, which tells us we’ve done something wrong, shame makes us feel like we ARE something wrong. UNRAVEL is an intimate look at these ideas and explores the process of confronting and releasing the shame and stigma surrounding our bodies, health, and relationships. How can we stop shaming and start embracing?
MashUp Contemporary Dance Company is an all female non-profit organization that celebrates strong women through contemporary dance. MashUp aims to create artistically innovative works and engage diverse communities in the invaluable experience of dance through company performances, after school education programming, and participation within the LA Dance Community.
UNRAVEL is MashUp’s full length performance in honor of Women’s Equality Day. In addition, MashUp has partnered with female photographer Bree McCool and the empowering education center LOOM, to present incredible photography and discussion inspired by this topic at the performances. Please join us for this powerful and visceral experience.
Sarah Rodenhouse – President/Co-Artistic Director
An East Coast native, Sarah grew up dancing in Rochester NY and attended Towson University in Maryland where she studied dance performance and education before moving to LA. Sarah has had the pleasure of working on numerous commercial, film, and live stage jobs for companies including American Apparel, Benefit Cosmetics, the feature film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, and New Year’s Eve ’09 with Lady GaGa. As one of the founders and Co-Artistic Directors of MashUp, Sarah has been choreographing for the company since 2010, showing work around Los Angeles and the USA. Aside from MashUp’s self-produced shows Sarah’s work has been showcased at numerous events including the LA Dance Festival, Pasadena Dance Festival, Charlotte Dance Festival, Yerba Buena, and The LA Design Festival. Beyond her passion for working with professional dancers, Sarah recently discovered her love for exposing dance and movement in general to those who might consider themselves “non” dancers.
