Living Mythologies – curated by SHRUTI BALA PURKAYASTHA with D’LO
June 4, 2016 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm PDT$15 - $20
The stories of Queer, Trans, Intersex People of Color (QTIPOC) are Living Mythologies. Connecting day-to-day meaning with cosmic purpose. Who are our reincarnated gods, our oracles, our sages, our magic workers that are shifting our life context into future paradigms? They are around us, creating ripples, shifting the universe in big and little ways.
As part of Highways’ BEHOLD Festival 2016, Living Mythologies shares the stories of Queer, Trans, Intersex People of Color (QTIPOC) through mythology, reclaiming our stories within reimagined old/new mythological beings. Through a one-on-one engaged creative process, performers will develop 10 minute theatrical, musical, poetic and multimedia pieces that show an existing or new mythological character rooted in the performers life story and purpose. Strung together, Living Mythologies shares the dreams of QTIPOC people through the aesthetics of ritual and old/new storytelling.

We ask for people to come scent-free (not using scented products or those with fragrance). Please avoid products like: clothes laundered in fragranced products (scented laundry detergent, fabric softener, or dryer sheets), perfume, essential oil(s), scented hair products, scented or fragranced lotion, cologne, after-shave, or other similar scented products. You are supporting others from seizures, asthma attacks, maigrains and multiple other nervous and respritory health emergencies! We acknowledge this is a learning curve for many, and are committed to navigating what comes with supporting our whole communities.
To respect community members with Multiple Chemical/scent Sensitivities (MCS), we are working to make Highways Performance Space low-scent for Living Mythologies. Highways has agreed to purchase scent-free hand soap for the bathrooms, and clean floors with water. We ask patrons to avoid smoking near any entrances and exits. Audience members can also feel free to leave the space during the performance if air is needed. We will reserve a number of fragrance-free seating that is most accessible to the exit.

We are not able to provide any language translation services. There will be a small amount of Spanish in this performance, and many visuals and sound pieces.
