BARBARA T. SMITH, What You Need to Know
May 9, 2014 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm$15 - $20
A performance/installation created by Barbara T. Smith, Corazon del Sol, Kate Johnson, and Kate Crash as part of Highways 25th “Silver Jubilee.”
Irrationally provoked by years of erroneous rumor and innuendo concerning her now famous 1973 performance, FEED Me, Barbara T. Smith wanted to at last set the record straight.
Imbued by a reverence for performance art history, Corazon wanted to shed light to future generations about the energies and history of such work. Video by Kate Johnson of EZTV who, since 2000, has collaborated on Smith’s video projects. With musician/artist, Kate Crash adding indispensible focus. All together they have invented a means to set the record straight and you, the audience, will be privy.
Barbara T. Smith has been creating singular performances since 1968. Her issues have included the integration of the female psyche by claiming personal operational territory.
Corazon is a third generation LA artist who is currently exploring the ideas of feminine intelligence.
Kate Johnson is an artist and filmmaker known for her large-scale video projection projects including co-designer of the Pacific Standard Time Gala at the Getty as well as films and installations both locally and internationally. She is also an Assistant Professor at Otis College of Art and Design.
Kate Crash is a “glam punk alien, cross-dressing renegade robot from the future” musician, performance artist and poet.
