What does it mean to be a mother?
Ortus is a Latin word that carries several meanings which describe the creation of something: birth, rising, origin. Definiens is exploring and celebrating the tenth anniversary of their own Ortus, by presenting an evening of contemporary chamber music with guest soprano Tony Arnold. The program features works by Alex Miller, Jenni Brandon, and Elizabeth Nonemaker commissioned specifically for the concert . They will also perform Jennifer Higdon’s Piano Trio, commissioned ten years ago for another group, and Joan Tower’s Petroushskates commissioned for the tenth anniversary of yet another group. Featuring Grammy nominated soprano, Tony Arnold, Definiens invites the audience members to each consider their own Ortus: of things that have happened, and things yet to come.
John von Rhein of the Chicago Tribune writes, “anything sung by soprano Tony Arnold is worth hearing.” Hailed by the New York Times as “a bold and powerful interpreter.” Grammy nominated soprano, Tony Arnold, has established herself as a leading specialist in new vocal repertoire. www.screecher.com
